Sally Powrie was born in South Africa in 1957 to theatrical parents. Her father was an actor and radio personality, and her mother a violinist with the PACT (Performing Arts Council of Transvaal) Orchestra, which later became the National Philharmonic Orchestra. She grew up north of Johannesburg, and her family spent a few years on a small farm. After completing high school, she spent a year in America on a student exchange programme. On her return to South Africa, she went to live with her father in Cape Town and studied medicine at the University of Cape Town, during which she married Les Powrie, and they had their first child, to be followed by four more once she finished her studies. She has now got three daughters and two sons, all grown up, and an increasing number of grandchildren.
After 22 years as a General Practitioner, Sally left general practice and began writing. Her writing includes medical articles, online articles about a variety of subjects, and books for children and teens.
